Attacker James Beattie told national team coach Sven-Goran Eriksson that he wants to play in his team for the European Championship.
J.Beattie scored 14 goals in the Premier League this season. This is the second best result among the main contenders for the England team after Michael Owen. However, the national team coach has not shown much interest in him so far.
"I would like to believe that my goals will catch his attention. I believe I could be a big boost for the team. I could be the player who comes off the bench. If England is losing with about 20 minutes left to play, I could be the player needed to score a goal," J.Beattie said.
J.Beattie has already played four matches for the national team, but so far he has not scored any goals.
"This season I scored goals again, although it was not my best season. I don't know what else could draw the coach's attention to me. I haven't planned my vacation yet and I would be willing to postpone it," he added.
