FC Bayern Munich played as if they were on someone else's feet and suffered a crushing 1-4 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg in the first Bundesliga match after the winter break.
The coach of the defending champions, Josep Guardiola, tried to console himself by saying that his players couldn't match the opponents' speed.
"They scored a quick goal and we just couldn't contain Wolfsburg's fast attacks in the first half," the coach said.
"We lost too many balls and had to give the opponents too much space. Congratulations to Wolfsburg, they were better at the right moments and scored goals. We will have to analyze what happened here and move on. After several weeks of break, we lack playing experience," Guardiola continued.
The goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who also let in four goals, seconded the coach's thoughts.
"We didn't start the resumed championship well. It's not a disaster yet, but there is a lot of work ahead of us," he said.
