The new head coach of the team is one of the best German defenders of all time, world champion Jurgen Kohler.
The coach will replace Norbert Meier, who was dismissed from the team last week by Duisburg for hitting defender Albert Streit. After this incident, N. Meier was disqualified for three months, so it was clear that he could not train the team, which was already in crisis.
The former sports director of Leverkusen currently has no coaching experience, but the team has high hopes for him.
"Naturally, we are very happy to have such a person in our team," said Duisburg team president Walter Hellmich. "He is the person we need to fight for survival in the league."
Currently, Duisburg is in 16th-17th place in the Bundesliga, only ahead of one team, and is in the "relegation zone".
