„Be better than Lionel Messi“, – such a task was heard from the lips of coach Joachim Low by Germany's miracle striker Mario Gotze. The attacker who replaced record holder Miroslav Klose in the World Cup final at the Maracana stadium seemed to have taken note of the coach's words - he scored a goal in extra time and brought Germany the title of world champions.
„Gotze is a miraculous guy. He can play in any position. I always knew he could become a decisive factor“, – J. Low affirmed after the match.
„I felt that M. Gotze could do something like that“, – added the German coach.
The 21-year-old Bayern Munich player bathed in the rays of glory.
„It's an unbelievable feeling. I don't even know how to describe it. I just hit the goal and didn't understand what was happening. Unbelievable“, – Gotze gathered words hard out of happiness.
Having scored two goals in six matches, Gotze did not diminish his goal: „I am proud of the team and very happy. The dream became a reality. Every player contributed a lot and deserves to be mentioned.“
According to J. Low, Germany's title of world champions is the result of ten years of work. J. Low himself took over the team in 2006.
„It's a very big work of many years,– admitted the 54-year-old coach, who faced a lot of criticism during the championship from the German media. – It all started with Jürgen Klinsmann. Over those years, we progressed step by step.“
J. Low rejoiced in players like Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Philipp Lahm, Miroslav Klose.
„These guys, with B. Schweinsteiger and Ph. Lahm at the front, gave everything. I told them that they had to give more in the final than ever before. The atmosphere in our team is incredible“, – said J. Low.
„We are the first European team to win a World Cup in Latin America. We are very proud of that. All this joy will forever remain in our hearts“, – rejoiced the German.
