At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the majority of football matches were cancelled, so in the first half of the year, Madrid's "Real" club asked players and other employees to reduce their salaries by 10%. It is reported that Gareth Bale was the only footballer who refused to reduce his salary during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bale earned around 500 thousand pounds sterling per week at "Real" club. However, the striker made a huge donation to the Welsh charity fund - he donated half a million pounds sterling to Welsh hospitals to help fight against coronavirus. It is reported that the players who agreed to reduce their salaries helped the "Real" team save around 45 million pounds sterling. Additionally, if Bale had reduced his salary, he would have accumulated around 50 thousand pounds sterling per week for the club.
