Yesterday evening, Juventus' general director Luciano Moggi confirmed that he had reached an agreement with the Milan club regarding the transfer of the defender.
The press in Italy had been discussing this for some time, and L. Moggi mentioned the deal after the friendly "Berlusconi Cup" match, in which Juventus beat Milan by a minimal result.
"We have an agreement with Inter. Now all that is needed are the contract terms with the player. Once that is sorted out, Cannavaro will become a Juventus player," Moggi said on Saturday evening.
Italy's national team captain F. Cannavaro could have moved to Juventus two years ago when they were preparing to sell him, but the player decided to move to Inter.
Over the past two seasons at the Milan club, the 30-year-old defender had been plagued by injuries and only played 50 league matches. Since Cannavaro's contract with Inter expires next summer, the club seems to have decided to swap him for Uruguayan goalkeeper Fabian Carini.
In order for Carini to receive a European Union passport, he will spend another season on loan at the Belgian club "Standard." The official transfer is likely to be completed on Monday.
Meanwhile, Juventus sold half of the rights to the young Giorgio Chellini to the club. The youth national team player arrived from just this summer, but with Cannavaro likely to arrive, it would be very difficult for him to break into the main team lineup.
