The attacking midfielder, previously playing in London, Adrian Mutu is convinced that Serie A could learn a lot from football in England.
Mutu had to go through a tough period at Stamford Bridge - in January he joined Juventus after the London club released him due to drug use - but even after so much time, his love for the Premier League has not faded. "One day I was discussing with Patrick Vieira (former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira) and we both agreed that playing for a Premier League club is a real challenge," said Mutu.
"English football drains all your energy, you have to constantly be in top form, without the slightest break, all matches are important because each team plays to win. And also, you have to constantly improve your skills. On the other hand, when Serie A clubs face Juventus, Milan, or Inter, they just tighten up in defense and all that is expected of you is to break the wall. Meanwhile in England, everyone plays real football, even if they understand that they can lose."
Mutu has always criticized the acting of players. He mentioned that it greatly harms the image of Italian football. "In England, players play football, they don't just act as soon as they step onto the field," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "They try not to fall, because your club's fans will be the first to throw you in the mud. Acting in football is a despicable element and really doesn't add any beauty. It's a game for real men, but when you see perfectly physically prepared players like Francesco Totti and Alberto Gilardino falling after the slightest touch, when they could really stay on their feet. They are both champions, but maybe the Italian blood makes them behave so disrespectfully."
