Brazilian Romulo, holding Italian citizenship, officially became a Juventus football player. The 27-year-old defender's move was announced by the Italian club on Sunday after the player passed his medical examination.
Juventus has committed to pay one million euros to Hellas Verona for a one-year contract. The agreement also includes an additional clause stating that the Italian champions must purchase the defender for six million euros if he plays in at least 60 percent of all matches in the season. The full amount should be paid by Juventus over three years. Otherwise, the Italian club can decide at its discretion whether to buy the experienced defender or not.
During a press conference held after the medical examination, Romulo did not hide his joy: "It's a dream come true for me. I am extremely happy to have become a part of this winning team."
"I had to sacrifice a lot to be where I am, so I am not going to stop and will do everything to help Juventus fight for victories. I will give everything for the club, my teammates, and the city," said the defender.
Asked about the upcoming season, Romulo admitted that it would be challenging to compete on both the European and Italian fronts.
"Fighting successfully in Europe is not easy, but I believe in our chances to compete for top positions. The club has acquired strong players and continues to strengthen the team successfully, with the goal always being victories," he said.
Romulo, known for his versatility, can successfully play both in defense and in attack. This was confirmed during a meeting with the team's coach, Massimiliano Allegri.
"He asked me where I would like to play. I replied that I could successfully compete on the right side of the field. I am here to help the team. Where to play, it doesn't matter to me," noted Romulo.
In the Turin team, the defender will wear the jersey marked with the number two.
