Madrid's center defender Jonathan Woodgate will most likely not play for about a month after suffering a thigh injury in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League quarterfinal match against London's "Arsenal".
The defender left the field in the ninth minute of Tuesday's match. Although there were fears that the player had torn a muscle, further tests revealed that the Englishman only strained it severely.
However, club doctors, who remain optimistic, hope that the month-long rehabilitation period is only the worst-case scenario. It is possible that the player will return to the field much sooner.
J. Woodgate only returned to the club's lineup just a month and a half ago, after recovering from a calf muscle injury that sidelined him for two months. The defender, who moved to "Real" in August 2004, had to wait over a year to make his debut at the Royal club due to injury.
