Madrid's "Real" team has had a real disaster of a season, but it will end with head held high thanks to Karim Benzema.
After scoring just five goals in last season's "La Liga" championship, the Frenchman has become a true leader in attack this season. He has already crossed the 20-goal mark in Spain, and has scored a total of 30 goals throughout the season.
K. Benzema is just four goals away from improving his career scoring record, which he set in the 2011-12 season.
Despite his excellent season, there are still expectations for strengthening the striker position in the summer. Mariano Diaz was acquired last summer as Benzema's backup, but due to various injuries, he has practically not featured.
According to the Spanish media, Madrid's "Real" is in negotiations with Frankfurt's "Eintracht" for Luka Jovic, who is seen not only as Benzema's backup in the club's management, but also as an ideal candidate to replace him in a few years.
After a match in which he scored a hat-trick, K. Benzema was asked about possible competition next season. The Frenchman insists that he is not afraid and will definitely continue playing for the club.
"I am focused and clear about my intentions. The only thing I want is to help the team win games. I remain here, at the best club in the world. Whether the club buys a new striker or not is up to them. Whatever happens, I will have no problem with it," said K. Benzema.
Asked if he misses the contribution of other teammates in attack, the Frenchman replied: "I need my teammates just as much as they need me. This season has been tough for everyone. We all wanted to win titles, because that's the only way in this club."
