"Manchester City" attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne revealed that at the time when he still represented London's "Chelsea", he wanted to move to Dortmund's "Borussia", but he was dissuaded by coach Jose Mourinho.
BvB coach Jurgen Klopp tried to acquire the Belgian in the summer of 2013, but the "aristocrats" rejected the offer and promised the player more opportunities to shine.
However, De Bruyne failed to break into the starting lineup of "Chelsea" and in January 2014 he was sold to the "Wolfsburg" club, where he became the best player of the previous season's "Bundesliga". Thanks to these achievements, "Man City" did not hesitate to spend 74 million euros on the midfielder.
Before today's match against Klopp's "Liverpool", the Belgian praised the new "Reds" strategist.
"I had reached a verbal agreement (with Klopp - ed.)," De Bruyne told The Telegraph. "I asked the club to let me leave, because at that time I had a very good opinion about the Dortmund team. Things were going well for me in Germany, and he (Klopp - ed.) really wanted me because Gotze had left for Bayern Munich.
"He called me and said that I will be part of the team that finished second in the "Bundesliga" and played in the Champions League final, the number one."
"At that time, I thought my decision to leave was good, but the coach (Mourinho - ed.) said I needed to stay and I would have my chance here. I accepted that and we left all that behind. I think Klopp is a good coach."
"I saw how "Borussia" played and they ("Liverpool" - ed.) are now playing in the same style. He's trying to do the same. He's a newcomer here, so he will need some time. He did an incredible job there (at Dortmund) in seven years."
De Bruyne also added that he does not feel pressure due to his massive transfer fee.
