Lithuanian U17 girls' team recently finished the European Championship qualifying tournament in Vilnius.
During the tournament, the Lithuanian team did not match the teams from the Faroe Islands and Greece, but in the last match they confidently defeated the Moldovan footballers and ultimately finished third in the group.
The head coach of the team, Kotryna Kulbytė, emphasized the different experiences gained in different matches.
"We had three matches of different levels, which gave us different experiences - with the Moldovan team we could spend more time with the ball, play attacking football, with the Faroe Islands team we had to fight, but we have to admit that the Greek team is unattainable for us today and is on a different level," - the coach singled out the Greeks, winners of the group.
She also emphasized the growth of the players seen during the camp.
"I would like to emphasize the players' desire to improve and the actual improvement during the camp, the tournament. If we compare the first and last day, the change is obvious. We have quite talented girls in this age group, so with focused and consistent work - we can expect results in the future," explained K. Kulbytė.
Asked what our team might be lacking compared to the level of the Faroe Islands or Greece teams, she shared a few observations.
"Today we are lagging behind in all aspects - physical, technical, and tactical. We can look at and follow the good practice of the Faroe Islands - their girls train in additional regional training sessions, as well as potential national team players in academies, so even within a short period their improvement is obvious," said the coach.
She also expressed her joy in the last match against Moldova with a secure victory.
"The players worked and learned throughout the camp, so they truly deserved this victory, and finishing the camp and tournament with a positive result - is always good," shared the coach.
