"Roma" defender Kostas Manolas revealed that he could have left the capital city team last season, but making such a decision was not easy for him.
"I signed a new contract because I felt I deserved it," said Manolas. "I could have left the club two or three times last season, but I didn't do it because I had played possibly the best season of my career in this team."
In Manolas' contract, there is only a €36 million release clause, but the player is not bothered by it: "I never asked for my release clause to be removed. Regardless of what is said in the press, I don't think this amount is small. 'Roma' assessed the whole situation by including this release clause."
When asked which club's offer would make him seriously consider leaving, the Greek player gave a response typical to almost every footballer:
"If clubs like 'Real' and 'Barca' contact you, and you are not Francesco Totti who rejected such an opportunity, I think everyone would seriously consider it. You always need to assess the situation because leaving 'Roma' is definitely not an easy decision."
Manolas has been playing for the "Romans" since 2014 and has already played in 180 matches.
