France broke the curse of world champions and secured their place in the World Cup quarterfinals.
In Saturday evening's World Cup Group D match, France defeated Denmark with a score of 2:1.
In the first half, the French had the initiative, but they did not take advantage of their chances, and the teams went into the halftime with a scoreline of 0-0.
The first goal of the match came in the 61st minute. Kylian Mbappe sent the ball into the net after a great pass from Theo Hernandez.
However, Didier Deschamps' proteges celebrated their lead just 7 minutes later. Denmark's central defender headed the ball into the opponents' goal after a lifted corner kick, equalizing the score to 1-1.
Nevertheless, the French managed to score the winning goal in the 86th minute, and it was Kylian Mbappe who scored a double. The striker redirected the ball into the net from the edge of the box after a pass from Antoine Griezmann.
After these matches in Group D, France secured their place in the next stage and stand at the top of the tournament table with 6 points. Meanwhile, Denmark occupies the third position and in the next round will have to achieve a victory against Australian footballers to keep their chances of reaching the quarterfinals alive.
