K. Zouma sentenced to 180 hours of community service for violence against a cat © JumpStory

In the spring, footage emerged of "West Ham" defender Kurt Zouma abusing a Bengal breed cat in his home. The video showed the Frenchman kicking the cat in his kitchen, swinging a pair of shoes at her, and hitting her on the head. The "West Ham" defender admitted to all the charges against him and was handed a 12-month community order, requiring the Frenchman to perform 180 hours of public work, as well as banning him from owning cats for five years. Furthermore, Zouma was ordered to pay almost £9,000 in court expenses.

"West Ham" also responded to the situation: "West Ham United can confirm that Kurt Zouma has been given a public work order. Our club once again emphasizes that we strongly condemn any violence against animals or cruel treatment of animals. Such behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the values of this team."

"Within 48 hours of the footage being released, we issued Kurt with the maximum possible fine. Every penny of this money has been donated to charitable organizations dedicated to animal welfare."

"Kurt immediately admitted that what he did was wrong. He apologized unreservedly. We hope that after the court's decision, everyone will give Kurt the opportunity to learn from his mistake and move forward."
