„In the "TOPsport A Lyga" tournament table, "Kauno Žalgiris" is rising to the top. In the 9th round, for the third time in a row, the Kaunas team defeated Marijampolė's "Sūduva" at home 2:1 (1:1).
At the beginning of the match, Armandas Kučys did not send the ball into the goal after Matias Rale's pass, but the same Lithuanian scored in the 6th minute in the penalty area. This was A. Kučys's fifth goal - he once again became the top scorer of the championship.
In the first half, after a pass from Artūras Dolžnikovas, a forward of "Kauno Žalgiris", had another good opportunity, but failed to convert it. Ugochukwu Oduenyi from Sūduva was close to scoring, but was stopped by Maxime Spano Rahou. Attempting a shot, the Nigerian legionnaire sustained an injury and was substituted.
Just before the break, U. Oduenyi, replaced by Motiejus Burba, provoked a foul by Aldayro Hernandez in the penalty area - the penalty was converted by Steve Lawson.
In the 57th minute, the Kaunas team could again take the lead. After a VAR review, the referee Orestas Abramavičius awarded a penalty, but Gratas Sirgėdas, who earned it, had to concede to Giedrius Zenkevičius, as Vilius Armanavičius failed with his second attempt.
After 16 minutes, this duo redeemed themselves. G. Sirgėdas made a pass from the right flank, and V. Armanavičius headed the ball into the goal. Jermaine Hylton and Klavas Kramenas made their debuts in both teams during the remaining time, but no more goals were scored.
"Kauno Žalgiris" rose to 4th place with 13 points, while the Marijampolė team has 9 points and ranks seventh.
