"Kaunas Žalgiris" secured at least bronze in Panevėžys.

The last round of the A League championship began with a victory for the "Kauno Žalgiris" footballers, who, already for the fourth time this year, defeated the "Panevėžio" team with a score of 1:0 (0:0) away. After this victory, the Žalgiris team became invincible in the tournament table and secured at least the A League bronze medals for the first time in the club's history with four games left. The Žalgiris players started the match a bit better and more confidently, but the ball control did not bring tangible results. Around the 15th minute of the match, Emmanuel David created a great opportunity in the penalty area after comfortably dropping the ball onto his chest, but his shot was blocked by the opponents' goalkeeper. As the first half transitioned into the second half, opportunities poured in both at one end and the other. The Kaunas team's goal was securely defended by Deividas Mikelionis, and shots from the opponents' side by the likes of E. David, Philip Otele, and Egidijus Vaitkūnas did not reach the goal either. Just as the second half began, Rokas Garaston's disciples had a great opportunity to break through. Linas Pilibaitis headed the ball to Simon Urbas, but the latter also failed to find the net with his head. In the 56th minute of the match, the "Kauno Žalgiris" footballers launched a counterattack and scored the first goal of the match. After L. Pilibaitis's pass, Egidijus Vaitkūnas scored from outside the penalty area. With less than ten minutes left to play until the end of the match, Deividas Šešplaukis could have doubled the Kaunas team's lead. A quickly taken set-piece led D. Šešplaukis one-on-one against the opponents' goalkeeper, but he failed to score. In the last five minutes of the match and the added time, the "Kauno Žalgiris" footballers were forced to play with fewer players as Rimvydas Sadauskas received his second yellow card and was sent off. During the remaining time, the Kaunas team had to withstand strong pressure from the opponents, and in added time even lost Pijus Širvys to a red card. However, the Žalgiris players held out in defense and secured the victory.
