The "Kauno Žalgiris" futsal team has successfully completed the 2024-2025 season, securing the title of Lithuanian indoor football champions for the ninth consecutive time. The season brought two domestic titles to the team and also allowed them to test themselves in Europe and the Baltic countries.
Head coach Dentinho mentioned that this season was full of challenges and surprises; however, according to the strategist, the most important thing is that the team finished the season as winners.
"The experienced defeats during the season became one of the biggest challenges for the team. After them, it was very important to ensure that the players did not lose focus on the season's goals. I am very happy that they reacted wonderfully to those difficult moments and did not lose motivation," shared Dentinho.
The Žalgiris team defended the TOPsport Futsal A League title in Lithuania and earlier in the season fought for the LFF Futsal Supercup. However, the team had to relinquish the LFF Futsal Cup title. In the cup semifinal, after a tough battle, the Kaunas team acknowledged the superiority of Jonavos "Vikingai."
This year, "Kauno Žalgiris" also tested their strength in the Baltic futsal clubs league. Here, the team faced Riga RFS twice and also had a match against the "Riga" futsal team. In these matches, the green-and-whites had to concede to the Latvians. For third place in the Baltic futsal league, the Žalgiris team competed against Jonavos "Vikingai" and triumphed in this match.
"I think we had several important moments during this season. We competed in a high-level Baltic tournament where we could measure our strength. The defeat in the Futsal Cup semifinal became a kind of wake-up call before the A League semifinals," said Dentinho. "I also think we performed very well in the UEFA Futsal Champions League in Italy. Although we lost in the last match to a strong team, we played very well during this league."
In the UEFA Futsal Champions League, "Kauno Žalgiris" competed during the main stage against Austria's "FC Diamant Linz," Luxembourg's "FC Differdange 03," and Italy's "Catania C/5." The green-and-whites secured victories against the Austrian team and also overcame the Luxembourg side. "Kauno Žalgiris" concluded their Champions League journey after acknowledging the superiority of the Italian team, finishing second in their group.
In this Futsal A League season final, "Kauno Žalgiris" faced Jonavos "Vikingai" once again. After three intense encounters, the Žalgiris team secured three victories in the final series and celebrated the country's trophy for the ninth consecutive time.
"All three final series matches were challenging; both teams had chances to win. Of course, I had to consider all scenarios, so we were prepared for everything, but we are happy that we finished the final series in three matches," told Dentinho. "This season was definitely the hardest, and not just because of the battles with the 'Vikings.' We see how strongly other teams like 'Akmenės kraštas,' 'Bruklinas,' and 'Gargždų pramogos' are growing. This is great not only for the league and the national team but also for the fans who deserve to watch high-level futsal in Lithuania."
