On Thursday, Lucas Digne, who signed a five-year contract with 'Barcelona', was immediately introduced to the fans and the media.
The Frenchman arrived in Barcelona with a face mask, but that didn't stop the club's doctors from conducting a health check-up.
The appearance of this 'accessory' was explained by the defender himself at a press conference: "Last season I was diagnosed with a broken nose twice, so surgery was definitely necessary. We decided to do it as soon as possible so that I could start preparing for the new season on time."
According to the new 'Barcelona' player, he understands very well that he will have to compete with Jordi Alba for a spot in the starting eleven.
"I think my style of play fits the team's expectations and style. I like to attack and fight for the ball, but I understand that in today's modern football I also have to fulfill my defensive duties," said the Frenchman.
L. Digne admitted that he knows which aspects of his game he needs to improve and he hopes to do so at 'Barcelona': "The additional motivation for me is that I will be playing in a team with world-class stars. I will do everything the coach asks of me."
The Frenchman confessed that he heard about 'Barcelona's' interest in him for the first time just before the European Football Championship.
"I realized that this was an opportunity I had to seize. At first, I talked to Jeremy Mathieu, then with Robert Fernandez (Barcelona's sports director), and during the European Championship I discussed it with Samuel Umtiti," said L. Digne.
When asked by journalists which jersey number he prefers, the defender replied with a smile: "That's not important. The most important thing is that I finally put on a 'Barcelona' shirt."
