Former Madrid „Real“ and „Barcelona“ forward Luis Figo jokingly described himself as the best footballer in the world - better than both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal constantly refuses to pick a side in the ongoing debates.
Ronaldo is currently showing incredible form this season, scoring 19 goals in 11 matches, while Messi has seven goals and as many assists to his name.
The nominees who could win the „Ballon d'Or“ award will be announced on October 28. There is almost no doubt that both last year's best player, Ronaldo, and the winner of four awards, Messi, will be on the list.
When asked who should win the golden ball for 2014, Figo jokingly tried to remain neutral.
„I am the best in the world. I never compromise on that,“ the former footballer told A Bola.
„You cannot choose between the top two,“ Figo continued. „It's very difficult because if you pick one of the two, it means the other is not as good. But that's not true.“
„That's why I don't choose between them. They are both very good.“
