In recent times, the Portuguese star, who rarely appeared in the main line-up of Real Madrid, agreed to the requests of FPF President G. Madailo and national team coach L.F. Scolari to return to the Portuguese national team. The player also agreed to be invited to the World Cup qualifying matches.
Figo began his career in the national team on October 12, 1991, in a match against Luxembourg. Since then, he has played in three European Championships and the FIFA World Cup. During his career with the national team, the Portuguese player played 110 matches and scored 31 goals.
