One of the best football players in history, Lionel Messi categorically denies rumors that his word influences the choice of coaches for the Argentina national team.
There were rumors in the media that the five-time best player on the planet personally chooses the coach for the Argentina national team. It was claimed that the striker urged the federation to dismiss Edgardo Bauza and hire Jorge Sampaoli.
"When the media speaks about me in this way, we all just laugh with friends," the Argentine said. "They wrote that I choose the coaches for the Argentina national team, but that is an absolute lie."
"Mascherano, Di Maria, Biglia - they are all famous names in football and such rumors about me show disrespect to them. I am not one who could do that. I don't have any special privileges to behave that way.
"We went through a tough period because there were chances that we wouldn't make it to the World Cup. Every time I returned to Barcelona, I thought about it and wanted us to be there," added the Argentine football legend.
