Luka Modrić, after a friendly match with the Portuguese national team, in which Cristiano Ronaldo did not participate, stated that he received congratulations from the Portuguese, even though he himself declined to attend the UEFA awards ceremony.
Not long ago, L. Modrić outperformed C. Ronaldo and became the best UEFA player of the year. It was reported that the Portuguese was supposed to attend the ceremony, but upon learning that the main prize was not going to him, he refused to go to Monaco.
Rumors from C. Ronaldo's close circle were not the most pleasant, and even the "Juventus" coach confirmed that the player was angry for not receiving the award. However, L. Modrić claimed that he received congratulations from his former teammate.
"My relationship with Cristiano is excellent and I think it will continue to be so," said L. Modrić. "He sent a congratulatory message after the UEFA awards and just said that we will meet soon."
"Undoubtedly, I am happy about the award, but individual prizes never appealed to me and I aim for team victories," added the Croatian.
L. Modrić and C. Ronaldo may meet on the podium on September 24th - when the best FIFA player of the year will be announced in London.
