L. Modric: we had no more strength to "return" to the game © Pool via REUTERS

Until the moment when M. Oršić scored a goal in the 85th minute of the meeting between the Croatian and Spanish national teams, Croatians were trailing by a score of 3:1. And their only goal was an own goal scored by the Spaniards themselves. When they needed it most, Croatians recovered and revived hope to fight for advancement to the next stage, as another goal - equalizing the score - snuck through the Spanish goal in extra time. However, two added goals by the Spaniards with a 4-minute difference "packed up" the Croatian suitcases and sent them home. The captain of the Croatian national team, Luka Modrić, commented: "We took the lead after the Spaniards' failure and their own goal, and we were a better team than them. At least in the first 60 minutes of the match, later we let them come back. We attacked intensively and created more opportunities - this determined our ability to come back and extend extra time." "In extra time, we took the initiative and failed to capitalize on two chances to score goals. After that, everything turned upside down and we no longer had the strength to "come back" to the game," added the captain.
