The Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić suffered an injury in the 2016 European Championship qualifying match between the national teams of Croatia and Italy and possibly dropped out of the lineup for more than a month.
In the 1-1 draw, the 29-year-old footballer had to leave the field already in the 28th minute.
"Modrić felt muscle pain and upon returning to Madrid, he will undergo tests. We will know more on Monday or Tuesday," Croatian coach Niko Kovač said.
The exact duration of the player's rehabilitation is not known, but initial reports suggest that the UEFA Champions League winners will be without the player for three to five weeks.
Having played 17 matches this season, Modrić is one of the main pillars of Real Madrid in the midfield. His position will likely be temporarily taken by his compatriot Sami Khedira, who lost his starting position to Toni Kroos.
