The head coach of the Russian national team, Leonid Slutsky, apologized for the poor performance after the extremely unsuccessful match against Wales and indicated that these were his last games with the team.
Yesterday, Wales faced Russia for a spot in the quarter-finals. The Russians, who only had one point, needed a victory, but led by Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale, Wales showed their strength and defeated their opponents 3-0.
After the tragic match, even the Russian media laughed at the team. In the online space, photos spread after the game showing the Russian defenders in a tragic state.
"I would like to apologize for today's performance," L. Slutsky began the press conference. "The fans did not deserve to see such an evening. I take full responsibility."
"After such a tournament, someone has to take responsibility. We tried to play and show that we are capable of winning. Unfortunately, due to my poor level, we couldn't succeed," said L. Slutsky, taking the blame upon himself.
L. Slutsky took over the national team in August 2015. His work with the Russian national team ended yesterday, but the coach will not be out of work - he will continue coaching the CSKA Moscow club.
