L. Spalletti: "Icardi refused to go to Vienna"

Mauro Icardi drama in Milan's "Inter" club continues - the Argentine, who lost the captain's armband, refused to travel to the UEFA Europa League match.

We have already announced that Milan's "Inter" issued a statement confirming that goalkeeper Samir Handanovič will take over the captain's armband. Soon after this announcement, it became clear that M. Icardi was not even included in tomorrow's match against Vienna's "Rapid".

As Luciano Spalletti said at a press conference, M. Icardi found it difficult to accept the changes in the captain's duties.

"Tomorrow we have very important matches ahead of us. After that, we will have enough time to explain the situation to Icardi," the strategist told "Sky Sport" television.

"It was a difficult and painful decision, but everyone agreed on it because they know it will be good for the team. We invited him to join the team for these matches, but he refused.

He is disappointed, but it was also difficult for us to inform him of this decision. After the match with "Parma", I said that this situation had to be resolved. The events of today only confirm what happened.

We believe that we made the decision at the right time and thought it through. It's painful, but the things happening off the field have affected him both as a player and as a captain. Now our focus should be on the match in Vienna," explained L. Spalletti.
