According to Inter coach Luciano Spalletti from Milano, Andrea Ranocchia's own goal against Genoa yesterday simply took all the life out of his team.
In the match at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, the result was 0-0 until the last attack of the first half, when a shot from Milano's defense hit his teammate in the back and went into the net.
Nerazzurri looked poor without their attacking leader Mauro Icardi, and eventually, Goran Pandev from the opponent's side managed to score.
''It was an even game, and in the first half we had the best chances, but when such an episode happens, like the one just before the break, it's not easy to regain confidence", Spalletti said after the match.
"However, as we left the locker room, we tried to play and stay on their side of the field."
"Truth is, we needed more balance. We couldn't handle the ball based on our abilities. The lack of composure led everything against us."
This year, Milano's team has only won one match and can already drop out of Serie A's top four this evening. The coach acknowledged that this period is tough for the players.
"The team didn't play badly, we just needed to stay in the game and wait for the right moment to break through," added Spalletti.
"We are going through a delicate moment, we need to grow gradually. It's not easy to turn everything around suddenly."
"We are trying to work to do something differently and I think we are moving in the right direction."
"It would have been good if we had been able to take advantage of these changes, but we cannot regret our decisions. They did not cause the loss."
Spalletti's players will probably be able to catch their breath next week, as they will face the seemingly hopeless Benevento.
