L. van Gaal: I wanted "Man Utd" to play like P. Guardiola's "City"

Having worked at Manchester United for two years, Louis van Gaal revealed that he wanted to play a completely different style of football while at the club, but did not have enough time for it.

While working among the ranks of the "Red Devils," the Dutchman received quite a bit of criticism both for the team's play and the results. Nevertheless, the coach is convinced that he could have played the kind of football typical of Pep Guardiola, but due to lack of time, he did not have the kind of players that Manchester City currently has under the Catalan's guidance.

"In my opinion, Pep is currently the best coach in the Premier League," van Gaal told the "Sport Bild" publication. "Pep from Manchester City has created an unstoppable machine."

"In his team, he demonstrates the kind of play that I wanted to play at Man Utd. However, he has better players in his team than I had. Additionally, this process would have taken longer, and nobody gave me the time," the coach continued.

L. van Gaal also shared his thoughts on Jose Mourinho, who replaced him in the coaching seat: "I am certainly not disappointed with his work at the club. Everyone wants to coach one of the biggest clubs in the world.

I think he always wanted this job. He thought about it even when Chelsea was in 13th place, and I was fourth with United. What I disliked the most was that the management said not to believe any press reports that even if I win the FA Cup, I will be fired."
