L. van Gaal: our defenders are too low to cope with "Stoke"

"Manchester United" coach Louis van Gaal believes that one of the reasons for the recent draw with "Stoke City" was the lack of height.

The "Red Devils" were forced to take the ball out of their own net at the "Britannia" stadium already in the second minute, when Peter Crouch headed the ball to Ryan Shawcross from a corner kick, and Shawcross had only to take a precise shot.

Van Gaal regretted that his team failed to deal with the strong opponents in their own half and told journalists: "Stoke City deserved the win. I can't say we were the better team."

"We started the game very poorly. When you concede from a set piece, which you have prepared for and the opponents score exactly as you have discussed, it is a big disappointment."

"But it is very difficult to defend when we are not as tall. Steven N'Zonzi and Peter Crouch are tall, so it is not easy. This was not the first goal we conceded like that."

Asked if they will seek a stronger defensive midfielder in January, van Gaal replied: "No, we want to play a different style of football than Stoke City."
