L. van Gaal: Rooney's goal drought does not cause trouble

"Manchester United" strategist Louis van Gaal assures that Wayne Rooney's goal drought in the Premier League is not of great importance - the striker has already made a name for himself in the past and is effective in other tournaments.

Recently becoming the all-time top scorer of the England national team, Rooney has failed to score a goal in the last 10 Premier League matches, but nevertheless, he is approaching the record of 249 accurate shots set by "Red Devils" legend Bobby Charlton.

Also this season, the player scored a hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage against Club Brugge.

"It doesn't matter if it's the Premier League or the Champions League," said van Gaal. "I don't care who scores the goals. But we must do it more often. When we dominate in all matches, we have to win them."

"Rooney has scored many goals - just like Juan Mata, Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial, Marouane Fellaini. You can count all his accurate shots. In my memory, Rooney has scored a lot. He has almost reached the club record. I hope he will improve that record."

Recovered from injury, the striker will step onto the field tomorrow in a duel with "Southampton".
