After announcing the end of his coaching career, Louis van Gaal once again reminisced about his time at Manchester United, where he coached from 2014 to 2016. The Dutchman, who spent two seasons in Manchester, was dismissed after winning the FA Cup. As the strategist himself later reiterated, such a decision by the club was very unexpected for him. Speaking to FourFourTwo, L. van Gaal revealed that while coaching the "Red Devils," he wanted to attract stars like Neymar and Robert Lewandowski to the team. "I wanted to see Robert Lewandowski in my team, but it quickly became clear that it was almost impossible to do so, so I tried to lure Gonzalo Higuain. Before arriving in Manchester, I spoke with club representatives about signing Neymar. When you are a club like United, you must think only about the best players. The player himself also seriously considered this possibility, as it would have further boosted his jersey sales. I wanted fast wingers, so I wanted to attract Sadio Mane and Riyad Mahrez to the team. My list of candidates also included players like Thomas Muller and N'Golo Kante. I even tried to attract James Milner, who has the necessary leadership qualities.
