"La Liga" championship matches will be played only on weekends from next season

Spanish football matches will no longer be played on Mondays. This was announced by the president of the country's football federation, Luis Rubiales.

Posting on social media about it, L. Rubiales confirmed that this rule will come into effect from the beginning of the next season: "No more football on Mondays. Now matches will only take place on weekends."

He also added: "Fans are more important than money."

In early February, the Spanish football federation faced protests from fans and clubs that championship matches were taking place on Mondays.

On that occasion, protesting football enthusiasts bought even fewer tickets to the matches. In the league, only Madrid's "Real" and "Barcelona" did not play their matches on Fridays or Mondays - the remaining 18 teams did so more than once.

The unnecessary nature of Monday matches was also discussed by the Football Players Association leader David Aganzo: "Admit it - playing on Monday evening is abnormal."

NO HABRÁ MÁS FÚTBOL LOS LUNES. A partir de la próxima Temporada en @laliga habrá fútbol sábados y domingos Veremos qué ocurre con los viernes, si llegamos a un acuerdo bueno para todos.
