The reigning champions, Real Madrid, started the championship with a convincing win at home, defeating Getafe 2-0. Dani Carvajal scored the first goal with a header in the first half, and Gareth Bale secured the victory in the 51st minute.
In another thrilling match, Sevilla started the championship with a win against "Žalgiris". Portuguese forward Andre Silva, on loan from Milan, scored a hat-trick in his debut match in Spain. Franco Vazquez added another goal, and Sevilla celebrated a 4-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano.
In another match, Huesca, debuting in the league, secured a 2-1 win against Eibar. This is the first time in their club history that Huesca has reached the highest division.
