The coach of the Spanish national football team, Luis Aragones, expressed his desire for the team to play their home matches not in different stadiums but consistently in the same one. The strategist recommended Valencia's "Mestalla" stadium to be made the team's home stadium.
The Spanish Football Federation maintains the stance that the national team's home matches should be played in various stadiums across the country, but for the most important matches, Valencia or Seville stadiums are usually chosen for their special support.
For some time now, there has been talk in Spain about the possibility of choosing a permanent home venue, and L. Aragones, whose team will play the next World Cup qualifying matches against Lithuania and Bosnia and Herzegovina in Valencia, specifically suggested the "La Mestalla" stadium.
"I would like the matches to be played in the same stadium," said L. Aragones, who coached Valencia's team playing at the "Mestalla" stadium for the past two seasons. "The federation needs to understand that not everyone will be satisfied."
"The federation should make a decision and it will be difficult, but if it were up to me, I would choose Valencia," said L. Aragones, immediately presenting his reasons. "I and the players feel the support at Mestalla. I believe in Valencia and hope for huge support from the fans during our next two matches."
On June 4th, the qualifying match for the 2006 World Cup in Germany between the national football teams of Spain and Lithuania will take place precisely at the "Mestalla" stadium.
