Late penalty secured victory for Suduva

In the 16th round of the „TOPsport A lyga“, Marijampolė's „Sūduva“, which had suffered many losses in the lineup, hosted Gargždai's „Banga“. A late penalty kick into the visitors' goal decided the result - the match ended 1:0 (0:0) in favor of the residents of Marijampolė.

After 11 minutes, Valdas Paulauskas found Cesinha, the Brazilian striker shot beside the goal, Ernestas Burdzilauskas responded with an attempt on the goal. In the 22nd minute, the ball reached Augustas Dubickas, but his shot did not hit the target.

In the 35th minute, Cesinha took a long-range shot, which was easily caught by Giedrius Zenkevičius, and shortly after that, Antonio Lara shot over the goal from a corner kick. In the final minute of the first half, the ball from Benas Šatkus flew towards their own goal, showing an impressive reaction from Mantas Bertašius.

At the beginning of the second half, Motiejus Burba passed the ball to Artem Fedorov, who missed the chance, and a little later on the other side of the field, Giedrius Zenkevičius deflected a long shot from Matas Ramanauskas. In the 71st minute, Žygimantas Baltrūnas tried to chip the ball over M. Bertašius, but the goalkeeper defended his team.

In the 84th minute, M. Burba headed the ball after a corner kick, but M. Bertašius saved his team from conceding a goal. Right at the end of the match, Carlos Eduardo handled the ball in his penalty area, and the penalty kick was converted by Steve Lawson.

After the 16th round of the „TOPsport A lyga“, „Sūduva“ and „Banga“ have collected 19 points each, occupying the 6th and 7th positions respectively.
