On Wednesday evening, the last three matches of the English League Cup quarterfinals were played.
At "Anfield" stadium, two giants of the country - "Liverpool" and London's "Arsenal" fought for a place in the quarterfinals. In a true goal fest, where ten goals were scored, "the Reds" advanced to the next stage after a penalty shootout.
Goals started pouring in from the very beginning of the match for both teams - in the 6th minute Shkodran Mustafi scored an own goal, but "Arsenal" quickly equalized.
In the 19th minute, Lucas Torreira leveled the score, while Gabriel Martinelli scored a brace in the 26th and 36th minutes.
James Milner reduced the deficit from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute, but "Arsenal" regained a two-goal lead at the start of the second half.
Even after this, "Liverpool" never gave up - Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored in the 58th minute, and Divock Origi equalized just four minutes later.
In the 70th minute, "the Gunners" managed to take the lead again, but in the final minutes of added time, D. Origi scored his second goal to take the victory away from the visitors.
The teams that arranged a real goal fest finally settled the score in the penalty shootout. A single miss by Dani Ceballos determined "Liverpool's" triumph.
In another match, "Manchester United" surpassed London's "Chelsea" after Marcus Rashford's brace and also secured a place in the quarterfinals.
In the remaining quarterfinal match, "Aston Villa" emerged victorious against "Wolves."
