"Leicester City" Fans Caused an Earthquake

In England, an interesting but at the same time strange event was recorded. For the first time in history in this country, an earthquake caused by football fans celebrating a team's goal was detected.

Geology students from the University of Leicester, together with the British Geological Survey, installed a seismograph near the "King Power" stadium. During the football match between the local "Leicester City" and "Norwich City" teams, they recorded a 0.3 magnitude earthquake.

The earthquake occurred after the striker Leonardo Uloa scored a winning goal in the last minute of the match for "Leicester City," causing more than 30,000 fans to cheer simultaneously. Researchers named the earthquake the "Vardy Quake," after the team's top scorer Jamie Vardy.

The seismograph was installed at Hazel Community Primary School, located 500 meters from the stadium.

"This captures the beauty of football. When everything is tense, and after a moment we have a few seconds of magic celebration," the geologists said.

Scientists studying the earthquake caused by football fans believe it would be interesting to compare the intensity of shaking caused by "Leicester City" fans with fans of other teams.

Students promise to continue their research and share the results on their Twitter account, which you can find here.
