The Lithuanian Deaf Sports Committee (LKSK) together with the Lithuanian Football Federation successfully organized the first Deaf Esports Football Championship, which took place at the GG1 Arena in Vilnius.
This event, which involved 20 athletes from all over Lithuania, stood out as an innovative step in the Deaf sports and esports communities.
The unique championship was live-streamed, with commentary provided not only in the traditional way, but also in sign language, making it the first project of its kind in the world. This broadcast not only allowed for enjoying high-level gameplay, but also made the competition accessible to the broader community of people with hearing disabilities.
LKSK President Edvinas Kriūnas expressed his joy at this initiative.
"We are delighted that we were able to hold this historic event. It was not only a celebration of sports, but also of technology, showing how the latest technologies can be integrated to make sports accessible to everyone. Our athletes put on an impressive performance, and we believe that this will be the start of a long and successful esports tradition among Deaf athletes," he said.
"It was a unique project that shows how esports can bring together various groups of people. It is especially pleasing that the commentary was in sign language, something that has not been done anywhere else in the world until now," shared Edgaras Abromavičius, the esports manager of the LFF.
LKSK believes that this championship will become an annual tradition, promoting not only sporting activities, but also social integration. The organization also hopes that such an event will inspire other countries to create similar initiatives, opening up new opportunities for athletes with hearing disabilities worldwide.
