"Ligue 1": First Round © EuroFootball.com

This weekend started the 2004/2005 "Ligue 1" season. EuroFootball.com will try to briefly review the most important matches of the first round.

The first matches of the new season were played on Friday. Mid-range team "Nice" met the winners of the last three seasons, "Lyon". After a very tough game, Lyon's players won with a minimal advantage. The only goal of the match was scored by Lyon's Brazilian player Giovane Elber in the 76th minute.

The remaining top four teams ("Marseille", "Monaco", and "P.S.G" - author's note) also faced difficulties in the first round of the championship.

"Monaco" expected a successful match against newcomers "Saint-Etienne" - after Javier Chevanton scored in the first minute, they took the lead. However, they failed to create more in that game, and "Saint-Etienne" did not show anything impressive either, so the match ended with a 0-1 result.

Before the start of the championship, one of the favorites, the Marseille team, also narrowly defeated the mid-range team "Bordeaux". The decisive and only goal of the match was scored by Battles in the last minute of the game.

The capital's team "P.S.G" experienced a complete fiasco in the first match. After conceding two goals in two minutes, they were unable to recover and had to admit "Rennes" superiority with a 2-1 result. "Rennes" took the lead after Sorlin scored in the 22nd minute. Alexandre Frei doubled the difference after a minute, and although Pedro Pauleta managed to reduce the result, the Paris team failed to avoid defeat.
