At least temporarily back at the top of the English Premier League, Pep Guardiola claims that the team has done a huge amount of work to still be in the title race at this stage of the season.
Manchester City won the rescheduled 27th round match against Everton on Wednesday evening. After a successful performance, the "Citizens" drew level on points with Liverpool, adding even more pressure on Jurgen Klopp's side.
"Now the situation is much better," Guardiola commented on the Premier League standings. "This is the best we can do. The reality is that a month ago we could have increased the gap to Liverpool to 10 points. Just a few days ago it could have been seven points, but now we are at the top of the table."
"The lesson is that we can never give up. This is a lesson for all athletes. We need to try to win every match, because life can suddenly change. Now we need to recover and start preparing for the match against Chelsea.
There is not just one candidate in the title race, as there are still many matches left. We will still drop points, but we will also expect the same from our opponents. Knowing how many matches we still have ahead of us, we cannot relax for a single day. The word 'consistent' means a lot in this situation," the Catalan shared his insights after the Everton match.
The crucial match against Chelsea will be played on Sunday in front of Manchester's home crowd.
