"Liverpool triumphs in the FIFA Club World Cup final after a tough battle"

On Saturday in Qatar, the final of the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup took place, where the champions of Europe and South America clashed.

Liverpool emerged victorious over Flamengo after a tough and extra time battle. The English representatives became champions of this tournament for the first time in their club's history.

The first half was quite even. Liverpool could have taken the lead early on, with Roberto Firmino missing a clear chance in front of the goal just minutes into the match.

Later on, the South American champions threatened with dangerous attacks - Alisson had to make some saves. However, no goals were scored in the first 45 minutes.

The second half was fairly similar - at the start, Firmino had another golden opportunity but missed the target.

As the main time neared its end, Liverpool was awarded a penalty kick when Rafinha fouled Sadio Mane. It seemed like this incident would decide the match, but the referee overturned his decision after a VAR review.

Without any goals in regular time, the match went into extra time, where Flamengo failed to find success.

In the 99th minute, after the final whistle, Firmino scored the winning goal. He outsmarted the goalkeeper and one of the defenders, delivering the third title in the past year to Liverpool.

Liverpool competed in the FIFA Club World Cup final for the second time in the club's history. The first attempt in 2005 ended in defeat to another Brazilian team - Sao Paulo.

The third place in the tournament went to Monterrey from Mexico, who defeated Al-Hilal after a penalty shootout.

Result:

Liverpool 1 - 0 Flamengo

99' [1 - 0] R. Firmino
