34-year-old Bixente Lizarazu will leave the club after the season. He decided to do so because he could not come to an agreement with the club regarding a new contract, which expires this summer.

"I have decided to leave Bayern when my contract ends. I am very proud of what I have achieved here, as I have won all possible titles. Now I hope to help another club with my experience," said Lizarazu.

Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld wanted Lizarazu to stay, but the club's president did not offer the player a good contract. Hitzfeld was saddened to hear that Lizarazu would be leaving the team: "It's a shame that such an important player is leaving us. Bixente has been especially helpful in helping us win all those titles in recent years."

Lizarazu arrived at Bayern from Athletic Bilbao in 1997. In his seven years at the Bavarian club, he won four Bundesliga titles, three German Cups, the Champions League, and the Intercontinental Cup.
