LMFA Winter Cup tournament in the 2nd round on Saturday, the Zalgiris women met with the FK "Vilnius" team at the Pilaitė sports arena and after an unsuccessful match ended with a score of 1:2 (0:0), they had to admit the opponents' advantage.
The first goal in the match was scored in the 65th minute by Aristelle Luise Yog Atouth of MFA "Zalgiris"-MRU, but at the end of the match, the "Vilnius" players Valerija Postol and Irina Topal took advantage of Zalgiris mistakes and expanded their lead.
In the first half of the match, there was a technical break in the game of both teams, and there were no serious chances for either MFA "Zalgiris"-MRU or the "Vilnius" goalkeeper. However, towards the end of the half, the players from Vilnius created their most dangerous attack, but after a long shot, the ball hit the crossbar of Meda Šeškutė's goal.
The second half started much more energetically for the MFA "Zalgiris"-MRU players, and in the 51st minute, L. Yog Atouth sent the ball into the opponents' goal after a nice combination, but the referee Darius Petraška signaled an offside. In the middle of the half, Karilė Liužinaitė tested the vigilance of the Vilnius goalkeepers with several long-range shots, and in the 65th minute, successfully avoiding the offside trap and placing the ball precisely past the goalkeeper, L. Yog Atouth scored the first goal of the match.
Unfortunately, after a few minutes, the Gabonese 28-year-old player had to leave the field due to a collision with an opponent, and without her, the Zalgiris attacks started to falter. However, K. Liužinaitė and V. Čiapaitė, who actively participated in the offensive actions, tried to keep the pressure on the opponents' goal, but in the 81st minute, the "Vilnius" players mounted a successful attack and equalized the score. And just two minutes later, the Vilnius players took advantage of a mistake by MFA "Zalgiris"-MRU goalkeeper M. Šeškutė and scored a second goal.
After missing the goals, the Zalgiris players who fell into a deficit could not regain the initiative in the remaining time, so they ultimately had to admit the advantage of the opponents who played more successfully at the end of the match.
For the Zalgiris team, these were the first matches in the LMFA Winter Cup tournament, as the match scheduled to take place in Marijampolė against the title defenders Šiauliai "Gintra" was canceled at the last minute. Meanwhile, the "Vilnius" players suffered a painful defeat in the first LMFA Winter Cup tournament match. On February 11, Vilnius players lost 0:4 (0:2) to the Kaunas region "Hegelmann" players in Marijampolė.
