The strongest London greeter of the past season's English club continues to struggle with injuries to key players. Joining the growing list of injured players is midfielder Robert Pires. The Frenchman stretched his Achilles tendon and as a result will not be able to play for two to three weeks.

31-year-old R. Pires suffered an injury in Saturday's Premier League match with Leeds United, when he was particularly roughly stopped by opposition midfielder David Prutton. By the way, the latter was sent off for this action, but disagreed with the referee's decision and pushed him. Now the footballer faces much more serious sanctions.

"It seems that nothing is broken," said Arsenal manager A. Wenger. "But the strain is serious. It doesn't seem like he will be ready to play in two to three weeks."

This means that R. Pires will not be able to help his team in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match against Bayern Munich on March 9th. In these matches, one of the main defenders of the club, Sol Campbell, will still be unable to play. The Englishman has not yet recovered from his Achilles injury and will not appear on the field for about two more weeks. Forward Thierry Henry is also currently recovering from a minor injury, but his injury is not serious and he will likely return to the field in a couple of days.
