On Monday, Madrid announced that club vice president Emilio Butragueno recommended Juan Ramon Lopez Caro as interim coach until the end of the season.
"I am really pleased with such news," Lopez Caro told the Spanish media. "I know the responsibility I have been given, and I am full of enthusiasm. Real Madrid is a great club with several excellent players who are willing to help me strengthen the team."
Lopez Caro, who had been coaching the reserve team of Real Madrid for four years, became the main coach of the Royal club earlier this month when the Brazilian Vanderlei Luxemburgo was dismissed.
At the age of 42, Lopez Caro has been working at Real Madrid for four years and has received much praise after leading the reserve team, "Castilla," to earn a promotion to the second division of the Spanish league.
Lopez Caro, who became the sixth coach of Real Madrid since June 2003, has already led the Royal club in three matches, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Piraeus' Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League, later beating Malaga 2-0, and playing a 1-1 draw with Pamplona's Osasuna on Sunday.
Recently, there were rumors that Liverpool's manager Rafael Benitez, Chelsea's leader Jose Mourinho, Arsenal's head coach Arsene Wenger, and Juventus' coach Fabio Capello could take over the reins at Real Madrid.
However, all three English club managers stated that they would not want to lead the Royal club, with F. Capello saying he would only consider taking over after the season.
