Coach of the Netherlands national football team Louis van Gaal has announced the final squad for the upcoming World Cup. Among the 23 players traveling to Brazil, there are no major surprises.
It is worth noting that the 2010 World Cup silver medalists will compete in Group B in Brazil against Spain, Chile, and Australia.
The biggest loss for the Dutch came a few days ago when it was announced that due to injury, defender Rafael van der Vaart will not be able to compete in the tournament. It was already clear back in March that midfielder Kevin Strootman would also not recover from his injury in time.
The latest players excluded from the squad are PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet, defenders Patrick van Aanholt and Karim Rekik, midfielder Tonny Vilhena, and forwards Jean-Paul Boetius and Quincy Promes.
