The head coach of the German national team Joachim Low stated that the future of Michael Ballack in the team is very unclear.
The footballer missed the World Cup due to injury, and for the same reason he is not currently playing.
"When Ballack is in his best form, he becomes an even more reliable leader and a more important player for the team," said the coach. "However, I have already told him that at the moment there are other players who are one step ahead."
"Every year new players emerge, so Ballack will have to prove that he is ready to play for the national team."
When asked whether the midfielder could expect a place in the team for the 2012 European Championship, the coach replied: "This applies to all players - with age come more injuries, and it is increasingly difficult to reach peak physical form. Ballack will be 35 then, but he can still play, he just has to prove it."
