The famous German Lukas Podolski surprised football fans by choosing not to accept offers from wealthy Chinese Super League teams and moving to play in Japan.
The 32-year-old forward, who will be wearing the jersey of the "Vissel" team, explained his motives for the choice:
"The level of football in Japan seems higher than in other Asian countries.
Experienced athletes play here - I have faced them many times in the past. They are intelligent and adept at controlling the rhythm of the game.
Many of them have matured in Europe, which once again proves the level of players.
I did not come here to rest and I want to prove my mastery on the field.
I did not sign a half-year contract to escape after a few months. I want to fit into the team and help achieve the club's vision."
