"L.Suarez and P.Diop, who have stood out, received penalties"

The heroes of the heated conflict between the teams "Barcelona" and "Espanyol" in the King's Cup match received a controversial verdict.

Knowing the subtleties of Spanish football and the surprisingly outdated system of evaluating such situations - nothing surprising.

After the match, Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, who provoked and called opponents "pigs" on the way to the dressing rooms, will have to miss two King's Cup matches.

During the match, Uruguayan Suarez exchanged angry phrases with Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez, who, by the way, also "distinguished himself" by accidentally stepping on Lionel Messi's ankle. However, the "parrot" goalkeeper came out unharmed and did not receive any punishment, as in Spain the match video recording is not reviewed and no disciplinary action is taken based on it.

Nevertheless, the war of words between P. Lopez and L. Suarez ended there.

Far more serious, "Espanyol" defender Papakouli Diop hit Barcelona striker with his elbows during the match. The Senegalese saw a red card after telling the ref an inappropriate phrase about taking a dump on the opponent's mother.

After the match, P. Diop told journalists that he and Espanyol players cannot be accused of playing rough because "there was no blood." Furthermore, the defender added that in that case, "if they wanted to, Barcelona players would leave on stretchers."

The competition committee imposed a one-game disqualification on P. Diop for such behavior.

By the way, similar inappropriate phrases about mothers, like the Espanyol player, were uttered by Barcelona defender Gerard Pique during the Spanish Super Cup match against Bilbao Athletic, but the Catalan was then punished much more severely and had to miss four matches. He was at risk of disqualification for up to 12 games.

During the clashes between Barcelona and Espanyol, two yellow cards were also shown to "parrot" defender Hernan Perez. He, like P. Diop, will have to miss one King's Cup match.

On Friday, Barcelona officially announced an appeal against the two-game suspension imposed on Luis Suarez.
